AVID is a progressive academic support program for students in middle and high school who need additional instructional strategies for learning success. For students with disabilities, AVID can provide differentiated instructional development to help students process learning in the classroom.
In today's classrooms, students with disabilities are being provided additional academic and instructional support with the implementation of the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program that incorporates both an academic and career support system beneficial for students. Teachers receive professional development in AVID instructional implementation in academic support areas and career explorations. As an elective high school class, students are able to utilize the AVID resources to transition into other educational resources beyond high school. Students learn how to improve study skills, problem-solving strategies and learn how to effectively take tests within the AVID framework.
The AVID program has become an important resource for students aspiring to higher education opportunities and successful academic outcome during high school. As a a program of hope for many students disenfranchised in the classroom, AVID plays an integral role in providing equity and access for students who may feel marginalized by the traditional educational systems.
