College Online: Walden University Makes It Possible

Operating out of Minneapolis, Walden University offers an online education that is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, an organization that the Department of Education as well as the Council for Higher Education Accreditation recognizes as a bona fide accrediting body.

Walden University has already captured the interest of Canadian students, who wish to further their education at a top-rated American school. In the same vein, this school is an excellent choice for Americans living in Canada, who plan to work toward their doctorate degree online.

Online Ph.D. Programs

Walden is one of the few institutions of higher learning that offer a Ph.D. degree online. At this time, there are 11 online Ph.D. programs open for enrollment:

  1. Doctor of Education (Ed.D.)
  2. Doctor of Business Administration (D.B.A)
  3. Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration
  4. Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
  5. Ph.D. in Public Health
  6. Ph.D. in Education
  7. Ph.D. in Psychology
  8. Ph.D. in Health Services
  9. Ph.D. in Human Services
  10. Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision
  11. Ph.D. in Management

Each of the online Ph.D. programs offers further specialization, thus enabling the students to not only pinpoint the emphasis of their education, but to also custom-tailor the degree to individual needs of the students’ career goals. On average, students attain a Ph.D. in four to five years, while the Ed.D. may be earned in as little as three years.

How to Qualify

Walden University offers a unique online education that is heavily geared toward professionally established adults who see college online as an extension of their career objectives. As such, the minimum age of enrollment is 24 years of age, although active military personnel – or those who have already received a verifiable 90 quarter college credits – will also be considered for preferential admission.

Prospective online Ph.D. students need to have a Master’s degree with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Recommendations to the program of a professional nature are also required. What is more, prior to offering acceptance into any of their doctoral programs, aspiring students need to provide a verifiable work history that is germane to the desired online education.

How to Apply

Since Walden University operates entirely online, the application process is also done by Internet. Create a profile on the Walden website and provide basic contact information. From there, you may select a degree program that offers you the desired online education, fill out the application form and submit it with the application free. Various supplemental forms may be downloaded for completion.

Once the information is received at the college, online career counselors will contact you to discuss the program in detail and also suggest payment options.
