The Art Institute of Pittsburgh: Online Division

The Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online Division is part of the Art Institutes system of schools, which has more than 40 locations in North America. The college is fully accredited by Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Higher Education. All of the 15 degree programs offered are available 100% online. Graduates are invited to attend the graduation ceremony in Pittsburgh. The diploma does not specify that the recipient’s degree is an online degree. Online students build a portfolio and are invited to join in the “portfolio show” along with on-campus students. Before a student begins the first class through this institution, an online student orientation must be completed.

Degree Programs Offered

The Art Institute of Pittsburgh: Online Division offers three different career diplomas, three associate degree programs and 10 bachelor degrees. Students can choose a degree program from four different divisions of study. These are culinary arts, design, fashion, and media arts. The following bachelor degrees are available:

bachelor of science degree in advertising: (applicable to public relations, marketing, education, business, entertainment)

bachelor of science in culinary management: (no cooking classes, this is a business program. Open a restaurant, catering business)

bachelor of science in fashion and retail management: (become a stylist, visual merchandiser, retail and wholesale sales)

bachelor of science in game art and design: (2D conceptual artist, 3D builder, game-play tester, background artist)

bachelor of science in graphic design: (production artist, graphic designer, art director, computer artist)

bachelor of science in hotel/restaurant management: (catering, management trainee)

bachelor of science in interior design: (designer, draftsperson, space planner)

bachelor of science in media arts and animation: (storyboard artist, texture artist, computer modeler, forensic artist)

bachelor of science in photography: (newspaper photojournalist, photographic editor, magazine photographer)

bachelor of science in web design and interactive media: (digital media producer, webmaster, project coordinator)

associate of science in graphic design: (entry level opportunities in graphic design)

associate of science in kitchen and bath design: (consultant, kitchen planner, assistant project manager)

associate of science in web design and interactive media: (entry level positions-programmer, graphic designer)

Admissions and Financial Aid

Admissions requirements for the Art Institute of Pittsburgh: Online Division vary according to degree program. The average requirements are a high school grade point average of at least 2.0 or GED score of 225 or higher. Many programs wave this requirement if the applicant currently holds an associate degree or higher in another field of study.

The Art Institute of Pittsburgh: Online Division participates in all types of federal financial aid programs and scholarship programs, just as any on-campus institution of higher learning. The college offers financial aid counselors to assist prospective students in this area.
