The best time to start teaching a new language or learning a new language is when a child is young. Between the times the child is born to the age of five, the child’s brain is like a sponge…soaking in anything and everything. This is the perfect age span to implement a second language.
The Bilingual Baby Series has videos for various languages including but not limited to French, Dutch, Italian, German, Spanish, English, and Japanese. The videos use a total immersion system where the only language heard is the one being taught. For instance on the Italian video you will only hear Italian words or on the Spanish video you will only hear Spanish words. The total immersion system has been proven by educators and researchers to be the most effective with learning a new language.
Although the child is only hearing the word which is being taught in the foreign language, the words also appear on screen translated into English. This helps for the parents to follow along and maybe learn a thing or two they may have not known!
The child learns over 60 words and phrases in each video. The video uses colorful pictures, toys and even other children to help teach the new language. The price range for these videos range anywhere from $2.95 up to $24.95, depending on which language you choose and who has it on sale! The video also comes in VHS or DVD formats.
Personally, I have used the Italian Bilingual Baby Video with all three of my children and thought it was not only educational but fun to watch. By watching the onscreen text I learned many new words as well! The video was well worth the price and my children are speaking Italian beautifully…well as best as they can for a 4 year old, 2 ½ year old and 1 ½ year old! I not only recommend these video series but prefer this series to others I have tried. With this series your child will be asking for lunch in a foreign language in no time!
