What is USHistory.org?

This interactive history website has a focus on American history and on colonial revolutionary times in particular. USHistory.org boasts everything from iPod downloads to historical document texts and an array of historical products to be purchased.

USHistory.org was created and is overseen by members of the Independence Hall Association as a way to educate the public about events that occurred during mostly revolutionary times. This is a non profit organization that spends their time researching American History and renovating items and places from American History, not to mention creating new items that will commemorate the times and the people that played a major role in creating the foundation of the country as we know it today.

Suffice it to say that references and materials used from the site are entirely reliable and well worth your time to look into using as you see fit in your classroom.

Using USHistory.org in the Classroom

Now the question is, how can you use this site for your classroom? Use some of the suggestions below to use USHistory.org as a learning tool in your American History classroom.

  • Document texts-These can be used for ease of reading when studying historical documents. When these original documents were created, they were handwritten. Though the writing itself is something of an art, it can be difficult to read. Your students are going to be learning words that are rarely used today and concepts that can be difficult to understand. Use the text format to make their understanding of the documents easier to come by.
  • Visual Aids- USHistory.org has some truly wonderful visual aids, all in a variety of sizes to fit the needs of your classroom, or even your home if you are a true History buff. Place these items in your classroom to not only assist your students in learning about their history through visual aids, but to give the classroom a historical feel.
  • Finding other learning resources- USHistory.org has their own list of links that are focused on American History. Browse this list to find links that will suit the needs of your American History curriculum.
  • Famous People- Teach your students about the lives behind the names in American History using these biographies on people such as Betsy Ross and Ben Franklin.

In short, USHistory.org really has too many useful learning materials to list on just one page. Why not take a look for yourself and find ways to incorporate USHistory.org into your American History curriculum?
