Applying For a Tutoring Job
Rating Excellent

Applying for online tutoring jobs is a fairly simple process.

The application process with Tutor.com is easy. The first thing you need to do to become an online tutor is create an account. You simply put in your email address, password, and first and last name. Then you are ready to go to the online application on one of the popular online tutoring services available. The online application consists of filling out information about your address and phone number, languages you speak, hours you are available for online tutoring jobs, and information about the type of computer and software you have available. Next you will answer questions about your education and work experience. The questions you answer in the application section of Tutor.com are similar to questions you answer when applying for any career in education, such as a regular classroom teacher. The application is easy to follow and fill out. If you have to stop filling out the online application before you are finished, you can save your answers and return with your email address and password when you have time to continue with one of the online tutoring services.

Working for Tutor.com

tutor logo When you have one of the online tutoring jobs at Tutor.com, you can schedule as many hours as you want--as few as five hours to as many as thirty hours per week. According to this online tutoring service, the best times to tutor are from Sunday to Thursday, from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. from September to May--when students are most likely working on homework. If you are hired by Tutor.com to become an online tutor, you have to commit to the times that you signed up for and show up on time. Online tutoring jobs are serious commitments, just like working at a regular teaching job Monday through Friday.

As an online tutor, you have several responsibilities. You have to provide tutoring, be familiar with online tutoring services' policies and procedures, respond to your mentor communication, read the monthly newsletter, and check your email on a regular basis for updates and messages from your management team.

For most online tutoring jobs, you are paid once a month for the number of hours you tutor. As an online tutor, you are paid as an independent contractor. This means no taxes are taken out of your pay checks. At the end of the year, you will receive a 1099 to file with your taxes during tax season.

You have to become a certified tutor when you work for Tutor.com. Once your application is processed and you are hired, you have a 30 to 60 day probationary period. Once you pass this period, you are a certified online tutor.
