Extensions

For an activity that encourages creativity, learning and working together as a team students can create their own summer camp songs. Counselors can give campers prompts and help them gather ideas for creating lyrics of their tune. This activity will work well if students are broken up into groups so that they can share ideas with each other. Once the groups have created their songs, the campers can take turns teaching the other children their song.

Counselors can provide campers with the beginning of a song and let campers finish it. This will make it easier for the children to formulate ideas and stay on track with their topics. Campers can create movements to go with their songs and teach it to the other camp members. Songs can be about nature or physical activities that they do at summer camp.
