Use these fun math about me activities to help students describe themselves using numbers.

Teacher Prep and Prior Learning

To do these math about me activities, students may be as young as preschoolers. They can do the counting activities as a class project. Teachers will need to have the items on the list below to complete these activities.

  • A scale large enough for a student to stand on.
  • A tape measure.
  • Construction paper in the following colors: white, blue, black, brown, green, skin colored, yellow and red.
  • Markers or crayons
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Begin by talking to students about body parts and how many of each they have. Then, prepare the craft area and begin do the activities below.

The Activity

To begin the math about me activities, give each student a piece of their favorite color construction paper. Then, ask students to fold it in half so that if forms a "book". You will be doing this repeatedly and making pages for the book as you go. Use the activities below to fill in the pages of the book. As you open the book, the page on the left side should always say "I have" or "I am", depending on the topic. The title of the book should be "All About Me".

Eyes

Ask students to count their eyes, then cut out two white ovals and two circles to fit inside the oval. The circles should be whatever color their eyes are. Instruct students to glue the eyes on the page on the right side of the book and write "2 eyes" under the eyes.

Fingers

Ask students to trace their hands on a piece of skin colored construction paper. Help students cut out the tracing, then glue it to the right side of the page and write "2 Hands and 10 fingers".

Weight

Talk about instruments that are used for measuring. Weight each student and have them write down their weight. Ask students to cut out a black square and a white circle about 1/3 the size of the square. Glue the square to the right hand page, then glue the circle on at the top of the square. Ask students to draw a red vertical line on the circle. Above the line ask the students to write the number of their weight.

Height

Measure the height of each student. Ask students to write down their height. Have students draw a picture of themselves on the right hand page. Then, ask students to cut out a strip of yellow construction paper and put dashes up and down it. Glue the construction paper next to the drawing. Have students draw a line from the top of their heads in their drawings to the "measuring tape". Have students write the number of their height next to or on the measuring tape.

Math about me activities like these will help students learn about counting and weighing. In this way they can practice their counting skills while also learning ways of measuring things.
