A is for the Alps which stretches from Austria and Slovenia in the east, through Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Germany to France in the west.

B is for bourree, a type of dance like the waltz.

C is for the Castle of Carcassonne, a medieval castle that looks like it came straight out of the storybooks with high stone walls and pointed towers.

D is for delicious desserts, fine French meal is never complete without some type of sweet, from a rich mousse to juicy tarte tatin.

E is for the Eiffel tower a steel structure that has become is one of the most recognizable places in the world.

F is for Franks, the Germanic tribes, from whom the ancient name of “Francie” was derived leading to the modern name “France.”

G is for the glass pyramid with 675 panes of glass that forms the entrance to the Louvre.

H is for hats, the French are famous for their hats, like the beret, originally worn by the Basque men.

I is for Ile de la Cite, which is located on an island in the middle of Seine and is the oldest part of Paris.

J is for Joan of Arc, France’s greatest heroine, she drove the English out of France in 1429.

K is for the kings that ruled France until 1789.

L is for the largest, France is the largest country in Europe.

M is for mistral, a fierce chilly wind from the Rhone Valley.

N is for the national bird, a Gallic rooster.

O is for oysters, a favorite among the French, they like them in soups, stews, and as appetizers.

P is for petangue, a popular ball game played in almost every town and village.

Q is for quiche, a rustic pie originally served by peasants but how is considered a favorite by all.

R is for races, France is a country of races including, the Gran Prix de Paris, 24 Hours of Le Mans, Tour de France, Prix de L’Arc de

S is for sailors, which the Breton are known as, they have their own language and traditions.

T is for Trans a Grande Vitesse, the world’s fastest passenger train, that runs between cities.

U is for underground mushrooms called truffles, considered a delicacy.

V is for Vichyssoise, a cold soup of leeks, potatoes and cream.

W is for Waterloo, the battle that ended Napoleon's rule as Emperor.

X marks the spot

Y is for Yves Saint Laurent, a famous fashion designer, France is considered by many the fashion capital of the world.

Z is for Zouave, a branch of the French military.
