The Geography ABC’s series is a unique and fun way to supplement your world geography curriculum. This series offers thirty-two countries and two different lesson plans. Each country has the alphabet listed with a fact that pertains to just that country. Ecuador

A is for the ‘Avenue of the Volcanoes,’ Ecuador’s central valley with 19 volcanoes on the west side and 20 on the east side.
B is for the blue-footed boobies. A bird with blue feet at live in the Galapagos.
C is for Colorado (colored) Native South Americans. Their names comes from the fact they die their hair and bodies red with the achiote plant.
D is for the Devil’s Cauldron, a spectacular water fall
E is for empanadas, a hot pastry filled with meat or cheese that is eaten for a snack.
F is for farming, Ecuador is one of the world’s top banana producers.
G is for the Galapagos giant tortoise which weighs more than 440 pounds.
H is for hydroelectric power, which proves over ½ of Ecuador’s energy
I is for the Ingapirca, Ecuador’s most important Inca ruin.
J is for the Jesuit Church of La Compania which is famous for its very fine, ornately carved facade.
K is for did you know? That Ecaudor’s flag has three colors, yellow, blue, and red and also it features Andean condor, Chimborazo Volcano, and the 1st steamboat built in Ecuador.
L is for the La Tolita civilization, that lived on the island, Esmeraldas from 500 BC to 500 AD
M is for the marimba, an instrument similar to a xylophone.
N is for Native South Americans that for centuries lived in the dense Amazon rain forest, but now just six groups have survived.
O is for Otavaleno, are traditional weavers and very successful yet they still wear traditional dress, and learn to speak Quichua the native language before Spanish
P is for the Panama hat, which is made in the small town of Montecristi with the native fronds, La Carluduvica Palmata and perhaps Ecuador’s most famous export.
Q is for Quito, the capital city is named after the Quitus people, who lived there in pre-Columbian times.
R is for river dolphins, which are pink
S is for the Salasaca Native South Americans that are farmers, with wear white trousers, broad white hats and black ponchos.
T is for thermal baths, a popular past time in Banos.
U is for the Urcuchillay, the Inca deity that watched over animals.
V is for volcanoes, Chimborazo is the world’s highest volcano.
W is for the wood-carving, the Ibarra, a Native South American are world famous for.
X marks the spot.
Y is for yuca, a rainforest, a dietary staple where a starchy root is peeled and boiled or fried.
Z is for Zambos, people of Spanish and African ancestry.
