The Geography ABC’s series is a unique and fun way to supplement your world geography curriculum. This series offers thirty-two countries and two different lesson plans. Each country has the alphabet listed with a fact that pertains to just that country. For a complete list of countries and lesson plans, a link to the Geography ABC's Index is at the bottom of the article.

Egypt -

A is for Aswan high dam. The largest dam in the world and controls the water flowing along the Nile Valley.

B is for Bedouin, a nomadic tribe.

C is for Cario, which mean ‘victory’ is the capital city and the largest city in Africa.

D is for desert tribes, Siwan’s live the desert oasis. They have their own customs and language.

E is for the Eagle on the flag which represents Egypt’s freedom. The red and black in represents Egypt’s struggles while the white is for the hope of the future.

F is for felucca, a traditional Arab sailboat.

G is for Great Pyramid, the largest of the all the pyramids, built over 4,500 years ago with 2 million blocks of stone.

H is for hieroglyphs, picture signs used by the ancient Egyptians for writing.

I is for islands. The Nile river has several islands, Elephantine Island is the largest and one of the most ancient sites in Egypt.

J is for jasmine. Now grown all over the world, originally came from Egypt.

K is for khamseen, the name for the dusty spring breezes.

L is for lagoons in Nile Delta are home for the Nile crocodile as well as a host of other animals.

M is for mummies. Ancient Egyptians would mummify their pharaohs after they died.

N is for the Nile River, the world’s longest river.

O is for oasis, an area of desert where the ground is wet and fertile.

P is for Pharaohs, the rulers of Ancient Egypt.

Q is for Queen Cleopatra, the last of the Ptolemy rulers.

R is for Rosetta stone an ancient Egyptian artifact used to understand hieroglyphs.

S is for sphinx, built by Pharaoh Khufu to honor his son. The sphinx has the head of a man and body of a lion.

T is for the Temple of the Abu Simbe, the largest, built by Ramses II with four status of him.

U is for University. The al-Azham University is possibility the oldest university in the world.

V is for Valley of the Kings, where the pharaoh’s of Thebes were buried including Tutankhamen.

W is for the White desert which ‘magically’ changes colors. The floor of the desert is white at dawn, gold during the day and purple at night.

X marks the spot.

Y is for young king, King Tutankhamen was eight when he became pharaoh.

Z is for Zikr a divine blessing that removes all misfortune and returns peace to life to the earth.
