The Geography ABC’s series is a unique and fun way to supplement your world geography curriculum. This series offers thirty-two countries and two different lesson plans. Each country has the alphabet listed with a fact that pertains to just that country. A is for Ajanta Cave. There are 30 caves in Ajanta. The paintings on the walls show the events in the life of prince Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism.
B is for Bombay, which is the biggest movie producing site in the world and the city is built on top of seven islands.
C is for capital, New Delhi.
D is for desert. Thar Desert also known as The Great Indian Desert is the most colorful desert in the world and is best explored on a camel safari.
E is for elephants, much of the work done in central India is still done by elephants.
F is for flag. India’s flag is orange, white, and green with a wheel in the center.
G is for Gol Canda, a castle city built to protect diamond mines.
H is for Himalaya, is the world’s tallest mountain range.
I is for industry which has recently grown with many new industries including carpet and silk manufactures. Also factories that make cars, bicycles, chemicals and dyes.
J is for Jute. India has become the largest producer and cultivator of jute in the world. Jute can be used in many way including being made into slippers, jewelry, bags, or rugs
K is for Kathakali, the dance drama that tells the stories of the Hindu scriptures.
L is for languages. Seventeen different languages are spoken in India with English being the most common widely spoken.
M is for the monsoon rains that battered the India coastline from June to September.
N is for New Years which in India is not a set date but season. It is in the fall and begins with the Festival of lights.
O is for one-horned rhinoceros. P is for poisonous animals. India is home to many poisonous animals including the King Cobra,the world’s largest poisonous snake.
Q is for Qutub Shahi Kings. They were the ruling family of the kingdom of Golconda in southern India and were great builders.
R is for religion while all main religions are practiced in India, Hindu is the main religion.
S is for saris, a brightly colored traditional dress of women.
T is for Taj Mahal a unique combination of architecture.
U is for Urdu, the language spoken by most Muslims.
V is for Vedas the Hindu holy books.
W is for weavers. India has expert weavers that make beautiful silk and cotton garments.
X marks the spot.
Y is for the Yamuna river.
Z is for zinc, a mineral mined in Rajasthan India.
