The Geography ABC’s series is a unique and fun way to supplement your world geography curriculum. This series offers thirty-two countries and two different lesson plans. Each country has the alphabet listed with a fact that pertains to just that country. Geography ABC’s can easily be adapted to any grade level and incorporated into any standing curriculum. A is for Architecture. Thailand’s architecture is different from any other countries and is called Sala Thai
B is for Buddhism is the main religion
C is for the Capital city of Bangkok
D is for Durian - a fruit that looks like a spiky green football and has a tangy nutty taste.
E is for Education. Thai children attend school from the ages of 7 to 15.
F is for Flag. Thailand’s flag is comprised of three colors. Red represents the lifeblood of the Thai people, white is for purity and blue represents the monarchy.
G is for gems. The Thai people mine the hills around Chanthaburi for rubies and sapphires. Thai gem cutters are considered the best the most skilled in the world.
H is for hilltribes. Hilltribes are found in northeastern Thailand. Each hilltribe has their own customs, religion and language.
I is for Islands. Phang Nga Bay is a marine national park comprised of hundreds of limestone islands
K is for Kite flying. Contest are held across the country from February to April.
J is for jungle safari. Look for elephants, prowling tigers and the rare clouded leopard.
L is for land of the free. Thailand means the land of the free.
M is for Mekong River. The home of the world’s largest cat fish, measuring up to 10 ft.
N is for New Years. Thailand’s new year’s is celebrated in April. The celebrations include sandtemple building contest and water fights.
O is for octopus. One of the many variety of fish the Thai people eat daily.
P is for Phu Khieo Wildlife Reserve. Phu Kheio is home to for endangered species like the Sumatran rhinoceros, Sarus crane, and the fishing cat as well as many others.
Q is for Queen Sirikit. Her Majesty is devoted to the people of Thailand.
R is for rice. Rice is Thailand’s main export.
S is for Seapeople or Chao Le. The seapeople like the hilltribes have their own language and customs. They make their living by fearlessly diving into the sea for pearls or scaling high cliffs for the nest of sea swifts.
T is for Takraw. A ball game
U is for undersea world. Thailand has a vast coral reefs
V is for Visakha Puja the celebration of Budda’s birth, life and death held in May
W is for Wai. Thais don't normally shake hands when they greet one another, but instead press the palms together in a prayer-like gesture called a wai.
X marks the spot
Y is for Yala. Where a yearly competition is held to find the most musical birds. Breeders come from all over.
Z is for the zebra tarantula. Roasted over a fire to singe off the hair and considered a delicacy in Thailand.
