This article discusses the importance of teacher's carrying teacher liability insurance, which covers teachers in a failure to educate civil lawsuit.

It is a sad state of affairs when teachers carry a million dollars a year in malpractice, failure-to-educate, or liability insurance, but many teachers agree that such coverage is necessary. Student have been known to tell a lie or two, which ends up putting teachers and their jobs on the hot seat.

Such situations are unfortunate, but students sometimes do not understand the consequences that teachers face if they are wrongly accused of such charges. Such charges or even accusations could lead to the suspension and/or termination of a teacher’s contract.

One instance in which teacher liability insurance is needed occurs when a parent accuses a teacher of not covering all of the objectives or competencies in a class. Generally, a student has failed the class and is looking for an enticing argument to make so he or she will pressure the teacher into passing him/her

Student Passes Class but Fails State Test

Another instance in which liability coverage is needed occurs when a teacher may cover all of the objectives or competencies in a class, yet the student failed to successfully pass his or her state test. If a student passes a class with an A, B, or a C, this suggests the student possessed the knowledge base and should have passed the state test.

A grade of 70 or a D is not indicative of much. Yes, a letter grade of a D is a passing score, but a D does not suggest much. A D basically implies that a student could have easily failed the class as what is the real difference between the highest failing grade and the lowest passing grade.

This is extremely important when a student can pass a class with a 69.48, which rounds up to a 70. A person with a 69.44 would fail with a 69. The difference is really hundredths of a point.

No Telling what Students will say

Then again, liability insurance is needed because there is no telling what kind of plots or ploys students are going to concoct. Sad but true—a teacher must be prepared when one enters the class room and obtaining liability coverage is a step of that preparation.
