Memorial Day, which was originally named Decoration Day, is a national day of remembrance in honor of American service men and women who have lost their lives while serving the United States of America. The first Memorial Day was held on May 30, 1868, and continues to be observed annually on May 30. Memorial Day is thought of a time for family gatherings, picnics, parades, and sporting events in addition to honoring fallen soldiers. This Memorial Day theme for preschool offers activities for learning about this holiday across the curriculum.
