Ideas for Preschool Snacks with a Fireman Theme

Firefighters are people who are trained to put out fires as well as rescue people from burning buildings, cars, and other places. Firefighters also help to fight forest and other natural fires. The following recipes are fun and creative ideas for preschool snacks that can be used to accompany a fire safety or firefighter lesson or theme. As with any snack, always remember to check with parents about food allergies or other dietary restrictions.

 Decorating sugar cookies in the shape of dogs is a fun snack that introduces fire dogs to preschoolers.

Fire Dog 1

• Ingredients: refrigerated sugar cookie dough, dog cookie cutters,
• cake decorating gels
• Preparation: Bake the cookies into dog shapes according to the directions on the package.
• Instructions: Give the preschoolers each a dog cookie. Allow the students to decorate the cookies with the gels. While the children are decorating their cookies, talk about what fire dogs are and what they do.

Fire Dog 2

• Ingredients: refrigerated sugar cookie dough, dog cookie cutters, white icing, chocolate chips
• Preparation: Bake the cookies into dog shapes according to the directions on the package. Ice the cooled cookies with the white icing.
• Instructions: Give the preschoolers each an iced dog cookie. Allow the students to press the chocolate chips into the icing to resemble Dalmatian spots. Again talk about what fire dogs are and what they do.

 Preschoolers will love learning about fire trucks with this adorable snack.

Ingredients: whole-wheat bread, strawberry jam, round crackers (Ritz), square crackers (Cheez-its), plates, plastic knives

Preparation: Cut a square out of the corner of the slices of bread so that the bread is shaped like an L.

Instructions: Give each preschooler a plate, a slice of prepared bread, two round crackers, and one square cracker. Help the children spread the strawberry jam on their bread. Place the round crackers on the bottom of the long side of bread to form two wheels. Place the square cracker on the small part of the bread to form a truck window.

Making fizzy fire drinks is a fun snack that preschoolers can use to introduce the topic of fire.

 Ingredients: red cranberry juice, lemon lime soda, ice cube trays, clear plastic cups

Preparation: Freeze the cranberry juice in the ice cube trays.

Instructions: Give each preschooler a cup of lemon lime soda. Drop a few red ice cubes into the soda. The soda will fizz and the ice cubes will melt into the clear soda.

 Building fruit candles is a fun snack activity that gives preschool teachers the opportunity to talk about fire safety.

Ingredients: pineapple rings, maraschino cherries, spray whipped topping, plastic bowls

Preparation: Drain the juice from the pineapple rings. (Drink the juice instead of rinsing it down the drain!) Place one pineapple ring in each bowl. Drain the liquid from the cherries.

Instructions: Pass out the bowls of pineapple rings so that each child has one. Explain that the pineapple is the candle. Then place a cherry in the center of the ring. Explain that the cherry is the flame. Allow each preschool to squirt a small dollop of whipped topping onto the cherry to put the candle out. Use this opportunity to talk about fire safety such as preschoolers should not play with fire or candles.

Learning about fire and firefighters is an important topic for any preschool curriculum. Preschoolers will love learning about fire safety with these fun and easy fireman preschool snacks.
