Use this Psalm 32 preschool craft to give students a conrete way to communicate with God and understand how He can ease their burdens. This simple and inexpensive craft can go a long way toward helping a child to understand what it means to communicate with God.

Communicating with God

This Psalm 32 preschool craft puts things into terms that students can understand. Psalm 32 is about exposing one's self to God and knowing that acceptance is a given. Preschool students may have a difficult time grasping this concept as it is not concrete and they cannot see it directly, nor understand how to feel it. This craft offers them a tool to use to understand in their own way how accepting God can be when any part of us is given to Him.

For this craft you will need 2-3 pieces of construction paper per student. You will also need tape and/or glue and scissors.

Talk with your students about prayer and talking to God as you complete this craft. Let students know that there is literally no thought or statement they can give to God that would make Him turn away from them. Talk about communication and the various ways it can be done. Explain that some people cannot voice their thoughts as easily as others. For children in particular, it's much easier to draw pictures or put their thoughts into general terms.

Give each child 2 pieces of construction paper. Help them to cut one of the sheets in half. Take one sheet and curl it so that it makes a sort of dome over the cut sheet. Fold the ends so that they make tabs so that it is possible to attach the domed sheet to the 1/2 sheet. Attach with glue or tape. Now, lay the end of the "dome" on another sheet of construction paper and trace that shape. Repeat this so that you have 2 traced shapes that look like upside down Us with a line at the bottom. Now, draw tabs around the edge of these shapes. Help students to cut the shapes out, including the tabs.

Once the shapes are cut out, cut a small slit about 1/3 of the way down from the top of the arch on one of the sheets. Use the tabs on the sheets to glue them as ends on the "dome" that was previously created. When done, this should look like a one way mailbox. Students can deposit their thoughts as drawings and doodlings in their "mailbox" to God. There is no way to open this because you cannot take back what you have given God and it is for no one's eyes but His.

Once the Psalm 32 preschool craft is complete, explain to students how they can use this craft to give God their thoughts and feelings along with their prayers.
