As you add and remove programs, change settings and configuration, browse the internet, download media and applications, and store data on your hard drive, the more your computer slows down. Without proper maintenance of your system it can start to run at a less than optimum speed. Performance is crucial with today's processor hungry applications and internet media streams, as such you need a program that can clean up all those hidden, fragmented and malicious entries that have a detrimental effect on your PC's ability to process tasks, run applications and deliver multimedia.

In this regard Pitstop Optimize2 is a product with a wealth of functionality to combat every speed issue that may be hindering performance on your PC.

Design and User InterfaceRating Excellent

PC Pitstop Optimize 2.0 has been designed with the novice to intermediate user in mind. Clear and informative at every turn you cannot fail to run the application with effortless ease. Such is the impressive simplicity of the GUI that any level of user will be happy to run the software, keeping their system tuned for optimum performance. Pitstop Optimize2 is built for speed and ease of use, with minimal need for manual configuration. It is literally a case of clicking ‘Next' through various tune-up options and running the Optimize (clean-up) process. It has the look and feel of a standard windows application, with easy navigation buttons and help, which are prominent but not overbearing.

Installation and SetupRating Excellent

As we have mentioned above, for an application that is so simplistic and effective at what it does, the installation, start-up and scanning processes are all impressively quick and reliable. Optimize2 can run on Windows Vista and XP, delivering equally impressive speeds of delivery. Installation alone takes no more than two minutes and does not include any ‘add-on' software that you find annoyingly (cleverly) bundled with similar products on the market. Install instructions are clear, intuitive, and in fact impossible to find fault or instability with. Once installed the Optimize2 software launches immediately, is not processor hungry and allows you to set or skip individual sections of cleanup.

The Optimize2 software leads you through the following steps;

  1. Configures the Optimize2 scanning solution for Dialup or Broadband optimization.
  2. Performs a diagnostic scan of the system.
  3. Tune-up/Delete Junk Files - Temporary files, Recycle Bin, Internet Cache.
  4. Tune-up Internet Settings - HTTP, TCP/IP, IE, Firefox.
  5. Tune-up Start-up Programs.
  6. Tune-up System Registry.
  7. Integrate Performance Tweaks.
  8. Optimizes the system.
  9. If necessary the system will ask for a reboot for the changes to take affect.

As you can see, there is extensive configurability for the user to choose how they want the system to be scanned and optimized. Alternatively you can run a scan of the entire system, which with many other products would mean going away, making a coffee and coming back to your PC a few hours later to review/fix the findings of such a scan! However with Optimize2 you can perform a full tune-up scan in less than a minute.

Having tested the product with multiple specifications of hardware, and seen it in use on the most archaic of PC's I can safely say even the longest of scans only take four to five minutes, that on the very lowest spec PC's. The process of optimization is equally responsive, taking anything from 10 seconds to three minutes. Once the optimizer has been run the product may request a reboot for all changes to take effect.
