  • Windows XP Backup Contents: Is it Similar to Ghosting a Hard Drive?

    Hello,

I have a couple of questions about using windows xp backup utility. Is this the same thing as ghosting your hard drive? Ie. Does it copy everything like registry values etc.? Could I use this backup to put on a new drive and then use that drive to run my computer?

Hi, the WIndows XP Backup Utility is not like a ghosted hard drive. If you want to ghost your drive you'll need to purchase separate software. You can run the Backup utility to see just exactly what it gets by doing a manual selection of items. Although you can back up the Registry, it's still not a ghosted backup. Joli

Feel free to contact me directly any time at joli_ballew@tx.rr.com. It's been a while since I've used XP, so I might need to do some research if you have further questions.
