Safari Browser

In the article The Mac's Safari Web Browser: Now for Windows, Matt Becker states, "Regardless, if I was to compare, do I find Safari better than Internet Explorer?  Definitely."

This confuses me somewhat as the article lists a number of problems with the browser including that it leaks memory, is slow to load and does not display certain web pages correctly. Additionally, Safari also suffers from a vulnerability which has resulted in Microsoft recommending that users "Restrict use of Safari as a web browser until an appropriate update is available from Microsoft and/or Apple."

So, given this seeming abundance of problems, what is it that makes Safari better than IE? Why would I even want to try this memory hogging and slow loading browser?

Very good point Brett. Would be nice to have further pro's and con's. I personally prefer IE to everything other than Firefox and Opera (I like the additional configurability and plug-ins) however it does worry me that the security of IE is so flakey. I wonder if Safari offers greater reliability and personal security of online information?  

Good article, Matt. I did not care for the sneaky way that Apple tried to distribute Safari as part of iTunes/Quicktime updates. I wonder how much of this sudden market penetration of Safari is due to folks not paying attention?

Hi, Brett.  All web browsers tend to suffer from some sort of security vulnerability, or what have you.  When pages load properly (which it does most of the time), it looks far more readable than any other browser I've used, and the speed that pages load is the fastest I've personally come across.

The memory leak problem can be fixed by emptying the cache, which I've mentioned in the article.  After that, it doesn't consume any more resources than Firefox or IE does.  Nonetheless, I still found the Safari experience better than Internet Explorer.

But the memory leak is pretty annoying.  Unlike in Firefox, I didn't notice an option in Safari to automatically empty the Cache and history (sensitive information) upon closing the program.  All in all, Safari really comes across as a basic version of Firefox with a bad memory leak.

Good article though.  Ever since Firefox started crashing consistently on my laptop, I turned to Safari as an option aside from IE.  I liked it, but found it overly simplistic and sometimes slow.

Well, I have yet to see anybody actually enjoy a memory leak situation.  If you do an image search on Google, you will probably find a Mac user discover that Safari was consuming more than 1GB of RAM.  This, of course, was a far earlier version of Safari.
