  • Windows Mobile - Spb Mobile Shell

As discussed in the History of Windows Mobile article series, Windows Mobile has long been the leading mobile OS, and is now shipped on many of the worlds leading Pocket PC’s and Smartphone’s. With Windows Mobile 6, and the soon to be released Windows Mobile 7, Microsoft has very much concentrated its design on business aesthetics and application delivery. Now however with the impact made by HTC Touch devices and Touch Flo interfacing, comes a new wave of online multimedia and information interfacing, led by Spd Mobile.

Launched in April 2008 the new Spb Mobile Shell looks considerably different from the rather professional business look and feel of Windows Mobile, and broadens the Spb Software houses portfolio of excellent mobile applications, i.e. Spb Insight, Spb Finance, Spb Brain Evolution, or Spb Pocket Plus . It looks much like the iPhone with its energized front end and easy navigation, and while application delivery is the same underneath the 'Shell', having a ‘Live’ multimedia portal such as this is a groundbreaking development for the Smartphone and Pocket PC.

Combining media and online services the Spb Shell provides mobile users with a platform from which to launch live applications, streamed audio and video, real time information and online shopping. Where Windows Live Mobile has tried, Spb Mobile has succeeded in creating a mobile OS that delivers an improved contextual experience based on the needs of mobile users in today’s global communication age.

Spb have been extremely clever tailoring their online shell to sit on all major Smartphone and Pocket PC devices, and it is encouraging that Microsoft are embracing 3rd party software that can be bundled with their own devices and platforms. In this regard Spb Mobile is extremely easy to navigate and customize.

Ever since Windows Mobile first hit the market in the form of Pocket PC 2000 Microsoft have endeavoured to create a mobile OS that can integrate application, communication, multimedia and information management on one solid platform. Now Spb Mobile offers the closest thing to iPhone for the mobile PC. And although Windows Mobile is supreme for business related mobile application delivery and communications, certainly as it offers basic editing capabilities, event and contact management, Spb offers the best shell for mobile multimedia application delivery and the signs are good that future developments will embrace mobile gaming and mobile live services in the not so distant future.
