Wired News Making Fun of the Conficker Virus?

RSS

Wired New's Threat Level has a posting by Kevin Poulsen making light of the media's sometimes inaccurate and sometimes sensational treatment of the Conficker/Downadup virus. Was the threat overblown?

"Conficker, like all the other botnets," said Poulsen last week, "will mostly send spam." This week he adds, "...reporting on a doomsday worm is good for page views."

While that may be true, and while we are still waiting to see what, if anything, a 12,000,000-strong computer 'bot will do, Bright Hub's position is still that if you have a Conficker infection, you don't need it and should try to get rid of it.
