What happens when you get the world's most used search engine going up against the world's most used web browser? Tune in to see if Google's new open source browser, designed on a slick new Javascript platform, can live up to the hype and become a force to be reckoned with against Windows Internet Explorer. Whether you do or not, it is clearly one of the most anticipated designs and downloads on the planet.
Coming just one week after Window's launch of the new Internet Explorer 8, Chrome is already 7,730,000 in Google search results, as everyone is eagerly awaiting its launch-
tentatively "sometime today" according to the Google Blog. According to the blog, "The web gets better with more options and innovation. Google Chrome is another option, and we hope it contributes to making the web even better."
Google Chrome is finally more than an idea and images are up on the new open source browser. On September 2nd, 2008 it became publicly available in more than 100 countries at the site for download (see Where To Get It to get your copy). The application is said to be clean and fast, with a streamlined feel much like the classic Google search engine. The browser is based on Webkit and powered by Google Gears, and will be making its debut on Windows OS only, with versions for Linux and Mac coming out later. As Internet Explorer is said to be used by around 75% of users, Google is clearly attacking its main rival first.
