Why Become Certified?
According to the Microsoft website, an “IDC study shows that 75% of all administrative employees are required to have either moderate or advanced Microsoft Office skills. (ICD, 2007)” Employers want employees who are familiar with Microsoft Office and especially ones who can navigate updated Office 2007 software for Window’s Vista.
Which Certification?
Microsoft Office offers three levels of certification. When choosing the one that is right for you, consider what programs your office currently runs on and what updates are planed for the future.
- Microsoft Certified Application Specialist - In this program you will be certified in Microsoft Windows Vista as well as the following Microsoft Office 2007 programs: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access.
- Microsoft Certified Application Professional - This program teaches learners more specific applications of Microsoft Office 2007. Upon completion students will be able to manage budgets, manage team collaborations, and manage presentations.
- Microsoft Office Specialist - Becoming a Microsoft Office Specialist puts you in charge of all Microsoft Office 2003, Office XP, and Office 2000 applications.

Test Taking
Exams vary depending on which program you are involved in. Study materials and practice tests are available and all are taken in a “live” environment that is administered by a Microsoft Certified Exam Provider and timed. Your test results will appear after you have finished, and refunds are not provided for failing marks. However, students may retake failed tests for an additional exam fee.
Languages
Microsoft Office has provided exams in the following languages: Arabic, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Greek, French, German, Korean, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese (Portugal and Brazil), Spanish, Russia, and English.
