This series brings you step-by-step instructions to unlocking the full potential of Microsoft PowerPoint 2003. In this chapter of “Instructions in Microsoft PowerPoint 2003”, we examine how to find free Microsoft Office Powerpoint 2003 templates, direct from Microsoft.

Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 includes a number of templates, yet the folks at Microsoft aren’t stopping there, as they have included a host of free templates to keep your presentations fresh.

All you need is an internet connection to access this free service anytime.

  • First, open your copy of Microsoft PowerPoint 2003.
  • On the top right hand corner of the window you will find a white box with the words Type a message for help.

  • In this box type the phrase Free Templates.
  • A search result box will appear with a link embedded in the phrase Microsoft Office Templates: Download templates for calendars, business plans, resumes, and more.
  • Clicking on this link will bring you to the Microsoft Office web page where you can begin your search for free templates.

From this page you can choose to browse templates via keywords or search for templates specific to your program.

To browse templates via keywords:

  • Scroll down until you see a section labeled Browse Templates to choose from keywords like Agendas, Calendars, Expense Reports, Presentations, etc.
  • Once this page has opened, filter your results with the drop-down menu on the left-hand side of the screen to bring you to PowerPoint specific templates.

To view templates specific to your program:

  • Scroll down until you see a white box labeled Search by Product.
  • Enter Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 to view templates specific to Microsoft PowerPoint 2003.

There are pluses and minuses to each viewing format. Browsing keywords will give you the specific style you’re looking for yet could include templates for programs such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher, or Microsoft PowerPoint, and while searching for PowerPoint specific templates will yield program specific results, you will have to labor through pages of templates to locate the one you want.

If you're using PowerPoint 2007, there are also numerous free PowerPoint presentation templates available, both from Microsoft and third-party sources. Many of these will be compatible with PowerPoint 2003 as well.
