BOClean helps to remove registy entries and stops malware in its tracks as it begins to load. It unlike other programs does not require you to reboot your computer to remove the malware or spyware. With BOClean working in the background (background service in memory), BOClean is on guard and detects changes that could otherwise infect you computer. BOClean can be pushed (updates) across a network and checks for updates every 24 hours. Their website offers free support for users wanting to use the network.
With new malware and spyware out daily, Comodo claims to have studied 1 million+ programs. With BOClean updating daily, BOClean downloads updates helping to keep you from worrying. Because BOClean is memory resident, if a malware somehow infiltrates your computer and tries to connect to the internet, BOClean will remove the program when it activates thus protecting your data. While testing spyware, BOClean performed as promised. As the spyware activated, BOClean removed it as promised.
The technology behind BOClean allows it to be compatible with all versions of Microsoft Windows with or without Service Packs. This is a much needed feature. Often I have older computers that need to be repaired and modern anti-malware/spyware programs simply will not work. Many programs today will not load on older operating systems or systems without the latest Service Packs. Another plus for BOClean is that it is designed for a standalone computer or a network.
One con is that BOClean under a limited user may not update properly because of restricted write permissions. Although the instructions on the website are clear, some novice users may have a difficult time adjusting these permissions. Another problem I had was with an anti-virus software I was using, BOClean would hold the CPU at 100%. This is also noted on the Comodo website. If I ended my anti-virus software, the CPU would return to normal.
It must be noted however that during normal operation, BOClean uses very little resources and is a great tool to have if files or other malicious programs are activated.
