Affordable anti-virus solution for a small business.

I am curious what you would recommend for a small company of about 11-20 employees to manage viruses.  Not sure if I should just get a personal copy for everyone or try to go with a more centrally managed, corporate type solution.  Whatever the solution, I need it to be affordable, but I also need it to be easy to manage.  Assume I don't have an internal IT person to manage this solution.  Also assume my team has better things to do than mess with making sure their virus software is properly installed and up to date, as in my experience, they won't, and then my network will be at risk.

The article How to Choose an Anti-Virus Solution should provide you with some pointers.

Definitely look for a solution that can be centrally managed. The bulk of the total cost ownership (TCO) of any security product is not its acquisition/licensing costs, but its administration costs - and choosing a product which can be centrally managed will enable you to keep those costs to a minimum. Furthermore, going with a centrally managed solution will also enable you to eliminate security holes by providing you with a mechanism to ensure that each of your endpoints complies with your security policy.

When choosing, it's important to remember that not all solutions are created equal when it comes to ease of management. While some may be extremely effective at stopping malware, they can also be extremely difficult to configure and manage (Symantec Endpoint Security definitely falls into this category). This is an important consideration for small businesses - especially for those without a dedicated IT staff - so read some reviews and trial some products before making a final decision.

BitDefender's business products are, IMO, a good choice; they're extremely effective, competitively priced, easy to manage and can provide integrated protection against a range of threats.

If you're on a shoestring budget, the freeware utilities I would recommend are SpyBot anti-spyware, Avast anti-virus and ZoneLab's free version of ZoneAlarm. You won't be able to centrally manage those products, but they all automatically update themselves and have a great price tag for a small business!

avast! isn't necessarily  a particularly economical option for small businesses. To license avast! Professional (the free version is only available for home/non-commercial use) for 5 PCs for 12 months would cost $144.75. By way of comparison, it would only cost $49.95 to license BitDefender AntiVirus for 5 PCs for 12 months - in fact, you get a 3 year license for less than the cost of avast!
