GoToMyPC, LogMeIn and NTRconnect are remote access and control solutions which all perform extremely well. Each product is easy to set up, easy to use and all offer a similar set of features. So, which should you choose? While each product is similar, there are a few noteworthy differences. Lets take a look at some key areas:-

Security

While each product handles security slightly differently, all are extremely secure and can be safely used in any environment. But LogMeIn and NTRconnect do offer a few more features than GoToMyPC. Both LogMeIn and NTRconnect provide 256-bit end-to-end encryption – GoToMyPC, on the other hand,

provides only 128-bit. Additionally, with LogMeIn and NTRconnect you can restrict the times that your computer can be remotely accessed and specify the IP addresses from which it can be remotely accessed – functionality which is not offered by GoToMyPC. Finally, NTRconnect is the only product to provide keycard security (see the NTRconnect review for more information).

As already mentioned, all 3 products provide an excellent level of security which will be sufficient to meet most people’s needs – but if you feel that you need to limit remote access times and/or restrict access to only certain IP’s, then you’ll want to look to either LogMeIn or NTRconnect.

Wake-on-LAN support

Only NTRconnect enables you to remotely start your computer. In order to use GoToMyPC or LogMeIn, the remote computer must be switched on. If you work away from your home or office computer for extended periods and switch off your computer while away, you’ll probably find NTRconnect’s wake-on-LAN support to be a real benefit.

File sharing

Only LogMeIn provides file sharing functionality which enables you to e-mail a link to a file on your computer which the recipient can use to download the file (directly from your computer) at any time. To share files in this manner, you do not need to invite the person to share your desktop and you do not need to be at your computer at the time they download the file. You’ll find this feature to be especially useful if you frequently need to share files which are too big to e-mail.

Remote printing

GoToMyPC and LogMeIn enable you to easily print a document on the host using the printer attached to the client – but NTRconnect does not. NTRconnect’s lack of support for remote printing is not too much of a problem as you can easily copy a document from the host to the client (and then print it). That said, if remote printing is something that you need to do on a regular basis, you’ll probably prefer the convenience of GoToMyPC or LogMeIn.

Mac Support

With all 3 products, you can use a Mac as the client, but only NTRconnect enables you to use a Mac as the host. So, if you need to be able to remotely access a Mac, NTRconnect is your only choice.

Cost

The pricing is not easy to compare as it will vary according to the number of computers that you license and the duration of your subscription. But, to provide an example, to license 3 computers for 12 months would cost $96.98 with NTRconnect, $179.85 with LogMeIn and $466.20 with GoToMyPC. It’s also worth watching out for special offers. LogMeIn, for example, presently has a deal with enables you license 5 computers for 12 months for only $199.75.

Conclusion

For most people, price will probably be the deciding factor. While GoToMyPC is certainly a solid product, it’s difficult to justify its additional cost –

especially as it doesn’t provide any functionality which cannot be found in LogMeIn or NTRconnect. But, price aside, you really cannot go wrong when choosing between these products. They’re all excellent. Simply pick whichever best suits your needs and your pocket and you’ll not be disappointed.
