NOD32 vs. Kaspersky
ESET Nod32 provides effective antivirus protection for Windows platform users (Vista/7/XP (64-bit). It doesn't stack up to Kaspersky, but it is a big competitor when it comes to detecting viruses. In fact, NOD32's 2009 product has been considered one of the top anti-virus programs. ESET is working hard to improve its products and surpass its competitors. As of today, NOD32's detection capabilities are notably very good. PC Word Magazine calls it a “Virus Stopper"; NOD32 has been highly recognized and has received many compliments and awards in the past year as it has one of the highest ratings for performance and proactive detection.
Kaspersky is often mentioned by users as the product offering the best possible protection for users when it comes to anti-virus. Kaspersky's antivirus program is hard to beat for the number of features that offers, its reliability and less intensive use of resources. It's recognized as one of the best anti-virus software today, and the 2009 product has been rated as one of "The Best Antivirus Programs for Windows XP."

The 2009 anti-virus product, then, provides complete antivirus protection from viruses and spyware, as well as from infected Websites. The KAV 2010 even got better by providing extra tools and features. This version provides essential PC protection (in fully automated real-time) at a price of only $39.95 (at kaspersky.com).
KAV 2010 improvements include identity theft protection and blocking of suspicious programs based on their behavior. It also makes it simple for users to identify unsafe websites by color-coding them.
Note:Kaspersky Anti-Virus (KAV) 2011 is now available. It offers a number of new and improved features (check the site for details) for latest online threats. It carries the same price as KAV 2010 ($39.95) from the Kaspersky anti-virus site (http://www.kaspersky.com/kaspersky_anti-virus).
* Like with ESET NOD32, consider the 30-day commercial trial for Kaspersky too just to ensure you agree it has the better anti-virus protection. Otherwise, check out Buenaventura's article, "Kaspersky Antivirus 2011 Review" to see how she rates it.
