Free Firewalls for Windows 7
Ive been using firewalls for several years. It does everything I need it to and is pretty secure compared to others. In the past I have used kerio, windows firewall, zonealarm, Comodo, Sunbelt etc. I really liked Comodo, it is bullet proof but is a bit overkill for me. Used to use kerio 2.1.5 last free version I think. PC tools Firewall while it may not be as bullet proof as comodo (which i think works with 7 but Im not sure), is really good, configurable, user friendly(for the most part), but (and this is of utmost importance for me), the fact that it doens't consume a boatload of resources is one good reason to use it.

Using avast for antivirus, Again hae used it for a while now, Not sure about resources, but doesn't seem to use much ram,, and gives a lot of false positives on some tiles that should be in question anyway. And its free and is filled with features that many paid for Security apps don't have.

Just my two cents. And curious to see what everyone else is using.

Microsoft Security Essentials (aka Morro)...
...will be a low end segment security suite. That is what MS themself is saying about it. I don't think it will be any better than Windows Defender - which is going to be discontinued - compared to other Anti-Malware software. I suppose that MSE will be some sort of minimal protection (better than nothing), but it will never ever compete against any of the 3rd party Security Suites. I don't think that the OS, the firewall, the security suite and all of that out of one hand is a good thing. Yes, I use google, but i would never use Chrome.

@AJ
Thanks AJ. I am sure you have saved other readers the effort of testing all the listed firewalls candidates and come to the same conclusion as you. However, for me to announce a product to be compatible with or ready for Windows 7 there must generally be a vendor statement because the computer’s security is at stake. Thanks a lot for sharing your experience AJ!
Have a nice day and a good time with Windows 7 - Mark

Free Firewalls for Windows 7
Hi Mark,
I stumbled across your blog today while looking foe an Free Firewall that's compatible with Windows 7. Well, Just wanted to let you know that as at today, it appears that PC Tool Free Firewall Plus seem to be working fine in Windows 7. Like everyone else, I've been looking for a free firewall that's compatible with Windows 7 but so far the top ones like Comodo, Zone Alarm, Outpost, and so on were all no gos.

I thought I'd give PC Tools a shot (though I'm not much of a fan) and thus far, it seem to be working smoothly...just thought you might be interested to know that. Have a great day!
