aLunch is quite simply one of the best launching programs I have come across in a long time. It is not a complicated program, it does what it was made to do efficiently, it is stable, and does not use a lot of system resources. Did I mention this program is completely free? Did that last point get your attention? It certainly got mine and since it was free, I decided to try it, I could always dump it if I didn't like it, right? That has not happened, it has quickly become a program I use daily and honestly, I would be lost without it.
So let’s look at the features:
• The program gives you a choice of displaying it in 16 or 64 pixels, which is a nice feature to have if you want to use more or less pixels, I use the 16 pixels and it is perfect.
• You can register folders as well as individual programs. This is nifty because you can organize all your documents, games, musisc, etc. in different folders.
• There is a quick launch option, where you can place files or programs you use most often at the very top, for instance, I have the calculator there since I tend to use it often
• Ability to name folders and groups anything you desire so that it makes sense to you and your organizational method
• Everything you need in one place. This was the selling feature for me; I like to have access to my commonly used programs and documents in the same place, so that I can quickly access them. aLunch does this very well.
• Quick set up – setting up aLunch is a breeze and you can add to it as you need to
• Solid application. This of course is vital, who wants to use a program that crashes all the time? I have used aLunch for about a year now and it has never crashed on me.
• It just works! If only all applications were this stable!
If you work on your Mac a lot, aLunch can definitely help you stay organized and launch your programs quicker.
So there you have it - if you are looking for a launcher that can also help you stay organized, I highly recommend you give aLunch a try, after all, it is free, what do you have to lose? I think you will find it quickly becomes something you depend on every day like I do.
