DMG Wiz allows Mac users to easily create dmg files (disk image files) in seconds. If you own a Mac, chances are you've seen .dmg as the extension of a file you've downloaded. But do you know how to create such files on your own? Well, if you ever want to package multiple files together, it can't get any easier than using DMG Wiz.

DMG Wiz can be downloaded at the developer's website. It is freeware, although donations are accepted. Once the file is on your desktop, all you have to do is open it and it will prompt you to move it to your Applications folder. After doing so you can create dmg files to your heart's content.

DMG Wiz has a simple and stylish window in which you drop the files you want to turn into dmg files. Once dropped you have a few options to choose from. You can create the dmg files, view the files or change the location the files will go once they have been converted. Oh, and don't worry, your original files will remain untouched.
I tried DMG Wiz with a few different file types. For a small package of picture files it took seconds to create a dmg file and the content was all included. However, DMG Wiz could not handle a large number of video files and stalled, causing me to have to force quit it. You have to package them much smaller to get it to work. Nothing over a gig is going to get converted with DMG Wiz.

I can see the appeal of DMG Wiz if you are uploading files into the internet or if you are sending files over email that you may want to compress. However, PC users can't open dmg files without some effort, so it is really only useful for Mac users. Also, the fact that it can't do large file sizes is a little disappointing.

DMG Wiz is a nice piece of freeware. It has its drawbacks, but overall it's is pretty useful if you are sharing files among other Mac users. Go ahead and give it a try.
