I am working on a project where I am using iShowU (my video capture tool of choice) to create screen capture videos and I need a neutral background for those videos that I am recording. The problem is I don't want to have to keep resetting my background to the preferred picture of my son from the plain background I have to use in the videos.
I decided to start using Spaces as a possible solution, but soon discovered you can't have different desktop backgrounds in different spaces. Or can you? There is no setting in OSX for this, but...
A search in Google for ways to have different backgrounds in different spaces lead me to a great FREE utility called "Spacesuits" by Dockland Software. I love the name!
Spacesuits lets you easily change backgrounds in different spaces. All you have to do is run Spacesuits and go to the space you want to change the background in. Drag a picture to the Spacesuit icon in your dock and that space will now have the background! It is as easy as that. I dragged a picture from iPhone right to the icon, but you can drag it from a file in a folder, too.
The only problem with Spacesuit is that you have to keep it running all of the time for it to work. However, it does remember the backgrounds in each space even after you quiet the program and restart it. I imagine if you move the original picture folder it will stop working, but this problem will occur if you move any desktop picture from its original location.
