Linux Certifications from Novell

When we talk about Linux certification, the Linux Professional Institute and Red Hat certifications get all the attention. Novell Linux certification, although less popular, is a certification worth obtaining- especially if you are looking for a SUSE Linux-based certification.

    Linux certifications are a good way to equip yourself with an extra qualification in the Linux field to get an edge over your competitors. But when Linux certification is thought of, LPI and Red Hat certifications get most of the attention. Novell Linux certifications, although not as well known, are certifications worth obtaining, particularly if you want SUSE Linux-based certifications.

    Novell Certified Linux Administrator (CLA)

    Novell Certified Linux Administrator (CLA) prepares you for the day-to-day administration tasks of installed SUSE Linux Enterprise Server networks. It consists of two courses

    3071 - SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Fundamentals

    3072 - SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Administration

    Certified Linux Desktop Administrator (CLDA)

    Certified Linux Desktop Administrator (CLDA) is an entry level Linux certification to provide you with the skills needed to install, configure and manage a Linux desktop environment. This certification does not require you to enroll in any course. You only need to pass a certification test which include a single course (3086 - SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 Administration) to achieve this certification.     Novell Certified Linux Professional 10

    Once you have acquired the necessary skills to become a Linux administrator through Novell training courses, the Novell Certified Linux Professional 10 is a certification which validates to your potential employers that you are ready to begin your career as a Linux administrator.

    Just like the other Novell certifications, this certification doesn't have any course work. You only need to pass a Novell Practicum to achieve this certification.

    Novell Certified Linux Engineer 10 (Novell CLE 10)

    Novell Certified Linux Engineer certification validates engineer-level skills for managers of enterprise networks based on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10.

    Prerequisite:

    You must hold a Novell CLP to become a Novell Certified Linux Engineer.

    The courses include:

    3074 - SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Networking Services

    3075 - SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Security

    Novell Certified Administrator (NCA)

    Novell Certified Administrator (NCA) can be said to be a newer version of the Certified NetWare Administrator (CNA) certification. It focuses on the skills you require to administer a network and server resources.

    It doesn't require any course work and you only need to pass a certification test to achieve it.

    The courses includes:

    Course 3088 - Administering Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 for Linux

    Novell Certified Engineer Enterprise Services

    This certification validates that you have acquired engineer-level skills in your area of Novell product expertise. You'll be able to install, configure and maintain Novell services essential to keep your enterprise running.

    You only need to pass a certification test to achieve this certification, which includes the courses:
