Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 may not have the kind of stranglehold on the virus protection market that Norton and McAfee have, but as far as I’m concerned, it comes out on top.

Introduction

Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 offers users solid and reliable virus protection, speedy scan times, and a whole package of dependable features, making this application shine with the best.

Price to ValueRating Good

What's Hot:
A three-user/one-year subscription to Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 will cost $79.95. Not the cheapest of its kind on the market, nor the most expensive. Given its outstanding antivirus protection along with its many other useful features, I’d say you’re getting first-rate value for your money.

Installation & SetupRating Good

What's Hot:

You’ll need to uninstall any third-party antivirus protection programs before installing Kaspersky Internet Security, otherwise the applications will conflict.

Before installation, you can select Express Install, for non-advanced users, or Custom Install, for the more technically savvy users. [See Image 1]

Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 installs quickly and painlessly. I didn’t encounter any problems.

Product FeaturesRating Excellent

What's Hot:

Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 offers technologies that protect against identity theft, all Internet threats, and offers rock-solid confidential data protection. It's called Triple Threat Protection. The company states on its website:

“In just the past year, Kaspersky's Internet Security Lab defended against more than 80,000 malicious Internet attacks - more than 200 a day. The volume is unprecedented.” [See Image 2]

Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 offers you all the features you’d expect to find in an all-in-one security suite. The only difference is their outstanding scores with independent testing. According to these tests, Kaspersky ranks #1 in antivirus protection and spyware/adware detection. How does Kaspersky’s protection stand up to the industry-leading companies, such as Norton and McAfee? There is a comparison chart on their site that is pretty impressive. [See Image 3]

Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 is fully customizable, allowing each user to benefit completely from all the features, including:

  • Antivirus protection
  • Firewall
  • Parental controls
  • Spam and phishing protection
  • Antispyware protection
  • Anti-hacker protection

Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 scans email for viruses, spam and malicious programs. They support the following:

  • IMAP, SMTP, POP3 (regardless of the users mail client)
  • NNTP (virus scan only and again, regardless of the users mail client)

You can preview your email before it’s downloaded to your computer for additional security. [See Image 4]

Also, you can decide what you’d like Kaspersky Internet Security to do with your spam email. [See Images 5 and 6]

Kaspersky’s parental control options are pretty good. They have the standard allow/block of websites, but also include filters and a block by category option. Users can customize security levels for individual user accounts and it’s password protected. Kaspersky will even log information when attempts are made to access a blocked resource. One more thing that Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 offers in this area is the option to restrict Internet access by time. Like all its other options, this one is fully customizable and can be set differently for each user account. You can either set it for a maximum time allowance, for example, two hours; or you can be more specific and set it for certain times, for example, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. [See Image 7]

Help & SupportRating Excellent

What's Hot:

Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 offers excellent support. Their help files are context sensitive, making it easier to find what you’re looking for. As well, it’s very thorough and helpful.

Kaspersky has email and telephone support. They also have an online forum, which can be very helpful.

PerformanceRating Excellent

What's Hot:

Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 has an option that enables you to suspend scheduled scanning when your laptop is running on battery to help save battery power.

Kaspersky Internet Security requires very little processor, memory and bandwidth resources. Its update files are typically 50KB.

Kaspersky’s scan process runs in the background. This means that if a user requires system resources, the virus scan will pause until the operation is complete and then automatically resume from where it left off.

Conclusion

Users who want all-in-one security suites should definitely consider Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0. Its top-notch antivirus protection combined with all of its other outstanding features are worth the purchase price.
